Full Version: Weight of Fuchs?

I know that the real Fuchs are forged and are supposed to be lighter than the knowckoffs that are cast but I wondered by how much. Does anyone know the actual weight of a 15x7 real Fuch vrs. a knockoff?

I can't give you exact numbers, but I've held one of each at the same time. The knockoffs are at least 5 (or more) lbs heavier.

I can weigh a real one if nobody has the weight off the top of their head....just happen to have 4 sittin' around. The knockoffs went at a swap meet.

I think the 15x7" are from 15-17lbs. My 16x6" were listed at 17lbs...but i weighed them myself and they were 15 w/o tires. A typical cast wheel would be about 22-24lbs. You'll notice the difference. My car drives smoother w/ the 16x6" and stiffer front torsion bars than when I had the 15x5.5 fuchs 2.0 wheels.

Thanks, 5 to 7# per wheel might be worth making a switch. I'm thinking of replacing my 16" BBS track wheels which are cast with 16" real Fuchs. I asked about 15x7 because I figured more guys would have them around then 16's.

Never mind that the centers of the cast (=fake) fuchs are known to rip out of the wheel under severe stress (racing / AX-ing)

ALL these Fuch are getting old and some are cracking.
The PP 911 list has had several threads on this. They are life limited.

Inspect any purchased wheels very carefully.
On my latest set, I carefully radiused all edges to at least .06. The edge breaks from the factory is spotty at best.....or just not done...and that's all one one wheel.

My friend has a set of each and he was switching tires so he weighed them on an accurate scale. Not as much difference weight wise as some thought but on a track car 12# is 12#. I guess it is on a street car too! tongue.gif

Plus the wheels are "rotating mass" which makes more of a difference, performance-wise, than say, the same amount of weight if it were on the chassi.

the ratio is about 1:2 ...

meaning, if you take off 1 pound of the "rotating mass", the gain equals 2 pounds off "static mass".
sooooo, taking 12 pounds off the wheels = taking 24 pounds off the body ...
