Saw another 914 at the shop where mine was and checked it out. The vin is a '72, but it has a 2.0 engine and the correct emblem on the rear. WTF???? I always thought that the 2.0 didn't come in 914's until '73. I don't think that it was transplanted. Didn't check what tranny it had. Just wondered it anyone else has seen a '72 (factory) 2.0.
BTW-it is for sale...project car....no serious rust that I saw.....see wanted/FS 914 in classified....

Technically, the books say that no 2.0l (4 cyl) motors came in 1972.

It is probably a transplant with a new badge.

Check to see if it is a side shifter as well, as perhaps they did the two major upgrades at once.

Don't know why I didn't think to check the tranny. I'll do that. Need to check the hell hole too and take some pics if someone is interested.

if they swapped the engine they'd be a fool to not change the tranny too... I don't think there was any factory 2L fours in '72... nor factory side shifters, late '72 they swapped to the 73+ front end, that's it.

to be an ass... the -6's were 2.0L tho:P

My '70 has a 2.0 and a side shift tranny ... and 916 bumpers.

No chance it left the factory that way biggrin.gif

Just called the shop......it does have a side shift......I guess it's a VERY early '73....Come to think of it, it has the '73 interior and seperate pass. seat too......

Right......my "74" has a door sticker of 10/73.......
Things must have been swapped out on this one......good, straight & very little rust. A great project car for someone.....

'72s had a separate passenger seat too, I believe the 73 and 72 interior is the same. except for the console option. the side shift could have been converted too, check the VIN to find out the year for sure.

FWIW, my "late" 72 has a MFG. date of 01/72... my old 72, was the early style and had a mfg date of 10/71 backing up the theory they start late in the previous year
