OR

What is the register size for the cylinder in the head?

021 101 371 Q is the most desired 1.7 head. the "J" is okay too, but doesn't have a bit of the extra beef that the Q head has in the ex port area.

The O.E. registers on all 1.7 heads are ~100mm

A guy wants a 1.7 head that I have.
I need to make sure its not a 1.8 head.

~100mm for the 1.7 head register.
What is the 1.8 register?

I believe the 1.8 and 2.0 registers are 105mm.

that is exactly what I need.
Just so long as they are far enough apart so I know..

Those are the O.E. specs. Folks get thrown off once in a while when they encounter a 1.7 head that has been opened to 105mm. An easy way to confirm that you have a 1.7 head is to look down the intake port from the manifold flange. 1.7 heads have no fairing above the valve guide. 1.8 and 2.0 914 heads do. Ofcourse the 2.0 914 heads are easy to spot because they have 3 intake manifold studs.
