anyone know if some of those "hotrodding VW's" books cover the type IV?
Doesn't say on amazon, just don't want a Type I book.

i know the vw interchange manual refers to tivs but, it does have a lot of good basic technical knowledge for vw mods. Such as what ignition systems and more...

No it does not cover the T4 and some of the info is pretty dated.
