Measure the distance between the gear tops and the top of the aluminum housing (where the cover sits). If you don't get 0.005" (IIRC) then take the gears out, find a thick piece of glass and get some sandpaper. The glass will give you a true flat surface, put the sandpaper down and sand in a circular motion to remove material from the aluminum housing (where the cover sit). Check often since it's easier to remove material than replace it.
