Full Version: fan torque setting & reusing viton seals

Couple of quick questions:

Does anyone know the torque setting on the bolts that hold the fan together? (not the bolts that mount the fan, I have those.)

Also, can Viton pushrod seals be reused. They were installed, then taken out and I want to put them back in. (car was not run)

thanks

I think its 14 ft/# like all the other m8 bolts, but I don't have my Haynes here. if you have one, look at the first or second page of the engine section. You will find all the torque values there.

The viton seals should not be an issue so long as they are not flattened and not cut or blemished. if they have taken a set, you should replace.

14 ft lbs is steel male in aluminum. Those go into those steel square nut thingys on the pulley flange, so 17 ft lbs is OK.

The trick is to assemble the thing with minimum runout at the pulley. I took one apart- God knows why- and when I tried to put it back together I measured .090" runout at the pulley. By loosening the bolts and tweaking it, I got down to about .020" best case runout. That was probably OK, but when I had it balanced, I had the machine shop true the pulley on a lathe for me anyway. Once it's together with minimum runout, either apply green loctite (penetrating kind) to the exposed bolt threads, or take the bolts out one-by-one and reassemble with blue loctite one-by-one.
