Do you have carbs or fuel injection? If you have carbs, maybe you don't have chokes which enrichen the mixture until warm.

Mine does the same thing. It also idles very slow until it warms up.
Don't know the solution.

Is the AAR working?
@oldschool, are you talking low on power or also slow idle?

both, it seems to take a long time to warm up. if I try to push it, it just dos not run right. tell it warms up. so why does it take so long?

What kind of impact does the thermostat have on warm up?

do you have a thermostat installed to speed up warm up times? I think that was the question asked.

I second the AAR idea. If the head temp sensor sees a cold value, it richens up the mix, but if the AAR is not open to allow extra air it would run poorly. Also , if the AAR is not closing with the heating element you might get a lean condition until the ambient temp gets high enough to close it. You need to get on the brad site and go through his troubleshooting check list.

Quick test with the AAR, pull the vac. line from it that attaches to the airfilter. Put your thumb over the line and see if you get decent suction.

That will tell you if it is open. Won't tell if its closing. If you haven't pulled it and cleaned it out, just do it. Test it on the bench. only takes 15 minutes start to finish.

If ya can't get it running well...try taking it to Mueller Motors in Alhambra. They worked on my previous 914 and are VW/Porsche guys.
