Below are some 914 style concepts that I’ve either thought up or come across from others. I’ve come to appreciate the aesthetics of the 914 over the years, especially after seeing what some people have done to it (see Uglies). However, sometimes change is necessary to accommodate a radiator, oil cooler, wider wheels, etc.

914 with Fiberwerks GT-2 style front nose and concept GT-2 style hood

The original version of this picture is available on the Fiberwerks website. Their nose/spoiler is similar to the 2002 GT-2 911 (pic), which has a vent at the leading edge of the hood that acts as an exhaust outlet for the oil cooler (pic). I added a similar exhaust outlet to this picture in Photoshop to see how it would look, and I liked it a lot. I will use this setup to vent half of the radiator air on my car (pic), the other half will exit via a vent in the front trunk.

Profile with blended rocker panels and vent window removed

Many newer cars don’t have separate rocker panels between the wheels. Instead their quarter panels blend into the lower doorsill (see 944). I tried to copy* that look to see how it would affect the 914’s lines. To complete the look, the front and rear bumpers have been painted body color.

Another style point that I considered was to remove the non-functioning vent window on the door. This is similar to the Cal-look done on older bugs. I never bothered to add the door handle to my picture so it looks like it has shaved door handles.

*Copy is the right word to use for this picture because it strikes a close resemblance to one done by Jeroen Berloth. I used his image as the background to create mine. I believe he did his in Corel Draw while I used Blender (a program I’m familiar with already).

914 with carbon fibre decklids and blacked out

Carbon fibre deck lids are popular items today and I’ve seen them advertised for the 914.  People often don’t paint their carbon fibre and it occurred to me that on a 914 this would result in a wide black stripe down the center of the car because of the black targa top. I blacked out the windshield trim and cowl to complete the look.
