Today at the flea market I found the ultimate pair of 914 jackstands for only five bucks. These are full size and made of aluminum. They are rated at 6000 lbs. and adjust from 11" - 17". My 2 ton jacks from Pep Boys (does that make them FLAPS Jacks? av-943.gif ) tip the scales at 4 lbs 10 oz each. These new aluminum ones weigh only 1 lb 14 oz each. A pair weighs 3 3/4 lbs. That is 5 1/2 lbs less than a set of steel light duty jacks. While these would not be my first choice for a bare metal restoration or engine swap, I am confident they will easily handle any road side repairs. Plus, they are a perfect match for the early 911 aluminum jack I carry. I did find this other cool style of aluminum racing jack stands. I am not sure what they weigh. All I need to know is that they cost $90 / pair.
