Worked on the Black car yesterday. Replaced the flasher relay, & got rid of most of the turn signal gremlins. Cleaned the contacts on the fresh air fan & got it working. Thank God! Replacing one of those is a major pain! I'll get to the wipers next week (maybe).
John & I worked on the Blue car today. Pulled the tranny to replace the clutch, and as long as we've got it out, do the sideshift conversion. It took us most of the day, but we converted it. We took the 1st gear from the freshly rebuilt transmission with the broken case that came with the yellow flared car. Nice gears in that one. Fresh Swepco, too. ![]() ![]()
Worked on the Black car yesterday & a bit today. Cleaning up some of the wiring gremlins. This thing is a mess. The PO changed the 71 steering column out for a 72 column, & didn't get it wired right. I've re-wired most of it, but I'm double-checking it. The highbeam relay was bad, so it got replaced. Got the door switch working, and the interior light works now. Monday I'll tackle the turn signals, 'cause they're not quite right yet. Then I'll work on the wipers & fresh air fan. Fun! A lot of cleaning of contacts to be done yet. I want to have most of this cleaned up for when the new owner (the body shop guy) takes it. Once he finishes the paint & body on the Blue car, he'll get this one, so I've got some time yet before it has to be done. I still have to figure out the FI problems & get it running right.
Worked on the Blue car today. John got the FI tester back & we checked it out. Turns out the TPS wasn't working quite right, so I pulled the TB & cleaned it up & put on a new TPS. WOW! Those things are pricy! ![]() ![]()
Didn't have time to do anything this last weekend, but on Monday, John said the guy from the body shop down the street came & looked at the black car. I had approached him about trading the black car for the paint & body work needed on the blue car. I went & talked to the body shop owner, and he not only agreed to do the body & paint on the damaged front end, he said he'd paint the whole car, plus paint the (primered) trunks! Woo Hoo! ![]()
Worked on the Blue car for a bit yesterday at the yard. Replaced the fuel sender, which had been sticky, and finally had become stuck at 1/2, with one from the yellow flared car. Replaced the tan seat in the car with the reupholstered one HI FI GUY had shipped me. Much more supple.
Replaced the TPS on the Black car with a cleaned up one. No change. Did a compression test, 120, 125, 117, and 109. Passable. Plugs looked good. John will pick up the Shop's injection tester this weekend from whoever he loaned it to. Maybe next week we can test both cars. Gotta figure out what's making the Black car miss so badly, and why the Blue car doesn't have much in the way of power.

Didn't get to work on the Black car yesterday, but pulled the Blue car in for a few. Adjusted the fuel pressure (it was at 38 instead of 30) and it runs a little better. I've had issues with the Djet for a while, but haven't really had time to mess with it. It didn't idle well before (barely ran at idle) but now it idles great when warmed up. Progress, at least.
I changed out the emergency brake handle on the Black car this morning. What a PAIN! Whoever buys it is probably not gonna like it, 'cause I put the folding style handle on it, like it came from the factory with. I like 'em, easier to get in and out of the car with them. ![]() Had time to check out the injecters, all seem to have a decent spray pattern, so I can cross that off my list. When I go in monday, John says we'll check out the CHT sender. It's all just a process of elimination. <_<
Managed to get the Black car on the lift at the shop at the end of the day yesterday. Drained & did a quick cleaning of the screen in the tank. Tank looks nice on the inside. Put gas back in, started it up, and John & I still couldn't figure out why it's running so rough. Timing is set, distributor cap, rotor, & points all good. We reset and double checked the fuel pressure. Still no change. If I feather the gas pedal I can get it to rev, but otherwise it cuts out. Replaced the fuel pump with a known good used one. No change. Maybe I'll get the chance to mess with it again today. ![]()
Got all the parts together to work on the fresh air blower and wiper motor tomorrow. John (Cap'n Krusty) called to tell me we got my battery tray & support, and right side pivot for the right rear of the rear trunk. Also found an engine lid hinge. Maybe in a couple of weeks I can talk John into doing some welding. ![]()
Worked on the Black Car today. Replaced the dash face material, soaked and straightened the glove box, and installed new speakers in the doors (they were already cut, so why not?). Actually, I bought new infinity speakers for the Blue Car & put the old ones in the Black. The Blue Car now has a great sounding stereo. ![]() Next week I'll pull the gas tank on the Black Car to replace the wiper motor and the fresh air blower. If I keep on it, maybe I'll have the thing ready for the WCC. I want it ready to run at Willow, so somebody will buy it! ![]() ![]() |
