Adapting a new TPS to the stock throttle body (should be fairly similar for 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 /4 motors)

With modern Electronic Fuel Injection(EFI), a new Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) will need to be installed. The stock TPS is basicly used the tell the stock ECU when the motor is at idle, WOT and when there is acceleration thru moving of the pedal.

The new TPS will tell the EFI ECU idle postion as well as give the exact location at any point in between, this is accomplished by calibrating the TPS to the ECU...as an example, the ECU will read 0vdc at idle and 5vdc at WOT, but it could also read 2.5vdc to indicate that you are at 50% throttle (numbers are just for writeup)

1st picture is the stock TPS with the cover removed, if you notice the backing plate, that is what I used to mount the new TPS only the TB.

2nd picture is bracket modified, I just used screws with nuts to capture the screws, I also used red LocTite on the 2 main screws and blue LocTite on the studs holding the bracket.

yippeeee.......

I finally got my Bridgeport mill working...well sorta, the X and Y axis work perfect, I sent a command to the Z (moves the spindle up and down) and nothing happened, it turns out that the stepper motor had some rust...huh??, yep, when I had the machine transported, it was raining, the machine looked wrapped up fine enough, but some water found it's way into the motor...

I called around and found that a 100% replacement motor was $375 and it was 20 years old....hmmm, next place had a new motor for $600...damn, I only paid $1200 for the entire machine...finally salvation when I found a company selling NEMA 42 stepper motors for $320 each, brand new and with all the specs I need.

hopefully in a few hours, I'll be turning perfectly good chunks of aluminum into little chips to cover the floor of my shop so I can track them into the house and get yelled at by my wife, hahahhaha
