Woah! Since 2007? Still working on getting this '74 running as an EV. I have put the 50 CALB cells in, but managed to fry a transistor in the charger when swapping out a shunt resistor on the AC input wire. I sent the charger off to Rich @ Manzanita Micro for repair, and an update so it will soft start and then ramp up the current to whatever the J-1772 pilot signal allows. SO I can plug in to an EVSE without having to open the front trunk to turn up the current knob anymore.

Probably have to replace the DMOC motor controller before it will be road worthy, as it will just barely turn the motor now.

Final configuration:

15 (3cells X 5 blocks) on both sides of the motor, 20 (4 cells X 5 blocks) in the gas tank slot. The blocks are strapped together to make handling the cells easier. Had to buy the strapping tools and strap/clamps.

That leaves 6 cells as spares, although I might use 4 for the 12V battery, just so they are on board if I need to swap any out. Too bad only 3 fit on the original battery tray, I'll have to cut it or make a spacer plate, as I don't want to have them separated with wire in between. (4 cells makes 12.8V, 5 would be 16.0V. )

Redid my relay board to look more like the original, losing the watertite box all the relays were crammed into. Got some ABS sheet and made a cap for it, getting it mounted today. welder.gif

56 100AH CALB cells (3.2V) on the way. piratenanner.gif

But it's getting close, I'm just about ready to order the batteries since the charger will be hooked up this weekend. Gonna be driving.gif soon! Meanwhile the '71 is still hanging in there doing the 16 mile a day commute. It's been so long since I've driven my "soft" car, I've actually gotten to like the stiff suspension! 'Course I know where ALL the bumps are now... smash.gif

Yesterday I swapped the rocker springs into the running 2.0. Shoulda done that last week while the motor was out, but the noise never bothered me in the '74. Something about having sound pad inside and out on the firewall... This 2.0 has Euro pistons and it's running the 1.8 heads, which actually flow a little less than the baby Webers. piratenanner.gif

It's a little less peppy than the 2056 was with the same cam and same carbs though... confused24.gif Oh, Right! Real 2.0 Heads made a big diff too.

On the bright side, the new seal solved the leak, so no more drips on the driveway!

Oh well, New Year's day and my '71 dropped a valve... WTF.gif Only about 4 miles from home and only 30 minutes for the AAA flatbed to arrive, so not too bad inconvenience wise, but having to drive the truck the rest of the week was awful! barf.gif Tomorrow I will put the 2.0 from the '74 in, Pelican was great at getting the parts I needed out to me in time. Prolly gonna leak just like it did before, but I'm changing the front seal JIC. Can't see anything else it could be... confused24.gif

Update for the end of '06:
"71 has the same old pads on the A calipers, they seem to have seated in now. I should put the new ones in around January. This has been my DD for several months now due to dropping the ICE out of my '74 to convert it to a Battery Electric Vehicle. A few delays in securing parts has me looking at suspension and brakes while I'm waiting. So far I have a nice AC motor and controller, waiting on the tranny adapter, motor mounts, cabling, charger ,DC-DC converter and instrumentation to arrive. Spending time getting the battery racks built up welder.gif and building a heater, and enjoying the rain.beer3.gif
We put 3KW of solar panels on the roof in October, PG&E just signed off on it and installed a time-of-day net meter, so once the EV is charging, I may see an increase in electrical use, but the bill should not go above where it was last year. For now it's actually gone down... Averaging 1KWH per hour of sunshine in the winter is not too bad, summer is gonna be great! bootyshake.gifflipa.gif Take that all you oil guzzlers!Attached Image

Brake Update;
My '71 had great pedal feel, until I put A calipers on it.

I got a good deal on struts & calipers at the PartsHeaven swap, and got some Koni Sports from Rich @ HPH. The original pedal feel was rock hard, turned out that was because the front calipers were 911 REARS! So a little softer with actual front calipers with much larger pistons is to be expected, right? I took out the prop valve and put in a tee, but I'm thinking bigger master now... It's 19 now, who's got a 21 that will fit?

Meanwhile, I put a pair of M's on the '74, I have yet to yank the prop valve, and it still feels better than the '71. 19mm also.

Gotta drop the '71 engine to re-seal a case plug this weekend, wish me luck!

Just put Mueller's hubs on my '74. All I can say is; Nice!
Once the new pads are seated things should be stopping better. I've gone through fresh stock brakes and BMW calipers before this. My '71 has M struts and calipers, so that's what I'm hoping this will feel like...Attached Image

>EDIT> Update!
Somthing I learned:

Mike's hubs are machined a little different than the original rotor/hubs. For one, the wheel mounting surface is closer to the inside, making the wheel inset by 10-15 mm. I had to add 6mm spacers to get the hubcaps to fit...
