12/26/05 - And so it begins. My life with The Beast. I travel from Topanga to Laguna Niguel with by Brother-In-Law Peter to pick up my silver '73 914 with a euro 3.2 liter powerplant. The car goes so fast, so smoothly, with huge gobs of mid-range torque. The suspension and tires are so well adjusted and upgraded creating a true "go-kart" turning action. In fact, the entire driving experience actually causes me to question my allegiance to my beloved '69 911E, now nicknamed "Beauty". Meanwhile, "The Beast's" future is the track. Streets of Willow, January 29th, for the Porsche Owners Club Short Track Series Event #1 for 2006. But first, off to Otto for race seat installation, brake modification, probably to Carrera front brakes, a general service that may include a valve job, and hopefully some modification to the headlights which are almost useless at the normal setting. I now have about a dozen boxes of various "spare" parts from the previous owner. Not to mention a set of steel GT flares, fiberglass front and rear bumpers, and a rear lid spoiler. All that goes in this spring before the April Short Track Series event. Until then, I thank my lucky stars for such an understanding wife.
