I noticed it hasnt been since september since i updated my blog.. so here is some of the things going on.

October: i went to G&R Rusty Swapmeet in Riverside CA and got a deal on a set of Stock valances. thanks to Greg Robbins for the Hardware and a big thanks to Toast who helped me install the Valance.. that part is now complete.

December: Busy month i got done with school, traveled to The central CA Coast and Spread my Mom's Ashes at her favorite spot in Cayucos. and I moved back to Colorado.

January-February: Since i moved i couldnt bring the 914 when i moved so my father graciously accepted taking care of the teener until i was able to get it out here to CO. I met the Colorado crew and had a great time.

March: Finally got my 914 out here to CO and got it legal.

April: I havent been able to do much with it.. i got a set of door panels from Ferg and a Stock 72 Console/Deposit from another member Kevin. and got those installed ive been working on little issues off and on like my climate controls and the turn signal.

May: not much more to report..

I finally added the MOMO steering wheel that i picked up at the Pomona Classic and Antique Auto Swapmeet. it looks good and since its a smaller its easier to get into the car with my height.

When i got the car it had no shift knob and last weekend at the Volkswagen Classic i found a Dino Shift knob for the car so it is looking alot better inside and i also found the correct Chrome and black window cranks the car had the later 75-76 window cranks on it.

After a trip to the DMV and a few dollars the car is now legally registered in CA!

Yesterday i brought home the car from my friends house where it was being stored. now since the semester of school is done i brought it back to drive it and work on it a little more.

I got the plates updated and stripped the paint off of the 8 spoke wheels as well as got the rest of the interior cleaned up after replacing some bulbs and couple other miscellaneous pieces the car is drivable.

I started to buff out the paint i know its not perfect paint but its paint none the less and i want it as nice as it can be until the time comes to strip it down and do all of the body work.

Im still looking for the stock valance panels front and back and a Drivers outer door handle

Well yesterday i got a suprise phone call from the gentleman that i bought the 914 off of and he had the Original Owners Manual with Vinyl holder and a book the 914 and 914/6 Handbook the. manual holder had receipts dating back to the late 70's

So now this car is a little more complete than i originally thought!

So Sunday i managed to get the car washed and cleaned up after it was sitting in the backyard for 3 years the tires are in pretty good shape so they will do for now. the body is pretty straight and it has a little rust in the rear trunk by the tailight panel.

I borrowed a battery from my brothers bug and did a electrical system test and it seemed like almost everything worked i had a taillight bulb out and the fan system doesnt come on but i was suprised and relieved that the headlights and acutators work.

I checked the oil and it didnt look to bad so i decided to try and fire it up and after getting the FI primed it started right up so now this weekend im going to change the oil and spark plugs and see about changing some vaccum lines it drove through all the gears and the trans seems to be fine.

im still working on cleaning the car and getting little details worked out but it seems to be coming along fine

More details to come!

Weclome to my blog my name is Chris and i have recently picked up a 1972 914-4 i have been a fan of 914's for years but never got one i have been into Volkswagens for years and years backing to the mid 80's. so im not unfamiliar with the 914's motor but in now learning the rest of the 914 so hopefully i can keep this blog up with my 914 and what ive done to it and what plans are etc.

About the 914. i picked it up yesterday March 10 2007 and its a 1972 which has the original 1.7 engine it has been parked for 3 years and has not been licensed for 10 years last licensed in 1997. it has ben repainted at least 3 times from what i can tell and the orginal color i think is L13. the car is currently red and has a set of gold aftermarket Empi 8 spoke wheels on it. my plans are to find a set of 2 liter Fuchs or Mahles, Pedrinis with ultimately having 5 lug fuchs. The interior is pretty complete and the drivers side outside door handle is broken.

More info to come
