Waiting for COA to verify One way or another. Things are promising....1974 2.0 that falls in all the right number ranges for a "Bumblebee" (VIN, Body number, Mfg date). Originally a black car and most paint is original. Has the right options (front and rear sway bar, fog lights, never had sail panel trim strip, etc.). Parents of the previous lady owner purchased the car in 1986 for her to drive in college. All records since their purchase.

Seller said car originally had yellow wheels and bumpers but her parents didn't like the wheel color and made the dealer change them out when they bought the car. Also had a minor front end collision in the late 1980's that damaged the spoiler and front bumper (I have the receipt for the repair).

Can't absolutely verify mileage since history from 1974 to 1986 is not known, However car was purchased with around 44k miles showing and now shows 57k.

Even if it's not a LE the car is still very tight and runs good. We'll see in a few weeks when COA comes back.

Can owners in the USA still obtain coa from your porsche dealers? I applied for one in Britain but was told they are no longer available. They only issue a certificate of production. Quite what the difference is i do not know but as i'm currently waiting for the cop to arrive i can't compare.

The COA has gotten a lot trickier. Porsche will no longer give you the original engine or gearbox number, you supply what you have, and they confirm if it is original or not and put Matching Numbers on the COA if it is.
The problem is unless you have Factory backdoor access, you can't know your original engine number, meaning you can never find it. Porsche says this is to cut down on fraud, and I can see that, but it's a shame because it does happen, finding your original motor.

nice find!, even if its not an LE, but if it is, you have a bit of work ahead cosmetically to return a few items back to what they should be- rocker panels, wheel color but none of it is a big deal - I think you should bring it to Okteenerfest this year!

If it turns out to be a bumblee I'm not that far away from going back to the look.

I have a good painted front bumper...would need a good painted rear bumper.

(The chrome bumpers on the car are in excellent shape so they can go to my parts stash).

AA sells the repro can am spoiler. Finding a real one would prove to be very difficult.

Side stripes are easy enough to locate and that just leaves buying rockers and painting the wheels. Nothing a little time and money can't handle.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

If it's not an LE I'll paint the front and rear valences black and get black rockers...even easier!

you can probably pay for most of that stuff by selling the chrome bumpers.

Not yet....although they charged my CC a couple weeks ago.

Car is still sitting on the trailer. Cranked it up last weekend and fired right up. After it warms up the idle gets ugly so I know I'll need to do something with vacuum lines (all original) and maybe have to look at some other FI components.

Until I get my COA it's sitting right where it is (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I've got too many other projects to worry about right now.

Once the order is placed for the COA, they will confirm or deny via telephone while the paperwork is being processed. Call Sara, she was able to do that for me without having to wait the 4-6 weeks for the actual Certificate. Good luck.

They wouldn't do it...I tried.

They called me to confirm the engine number.

While they had me on the phone I tried to get the paint code(s)...no dice.

It's okay...it will be like Christmas when it shows up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

overkill I know, but I sent a copy of the original window sticker and sales receipt for documentation of the Appearance group option package, special order paint code etc, and sent picture of the motor and transmission numbers,
that may not help from what I have heard based on other requests recently.

but they didn't even bother to call back, so I will just wait and see.

Before Porsche took the COA program back over about 8 years ago I had the lady who did it overnight them to me, those were the days.

Bureaucracy ruins everything.
