I'll take one. I don't need it for warm up but a semi cruise control sounds great.

FWIW I have one of these from Mark (914rubber)--it's very 'true' to the original and you will not be disappointed!

I'm looking forward to receiving one of these hand throttle sets.
I think about it every morning I fire up my 914 and then place a wood block (a very high precision tool) between the brake and throttle pedals to hold the engine at a high enough RPM to keep it from stalling. The CIS engine always starts instantly (neet, neet, VROOOM!), but will not idle until it warms up a bit. After about 2 minutes, I remove the very finely crafted wood block, put it back into the driver's door pocket (don't want it tumbling about on the floor while driving (ask me how I know)) and procede out of the garage and on my way. edit 1/26/2015: I installed one of these hand throttles this past weekend. Install went smoothly. My 2.4L CIS engine is an early one out of a 1973 911T, which was not equipped with an Auxillary Air Regulator the later CIS injected 911s got. If I remember correctly, 1973 911s also came with hand throttles. To start the cold CIS engine now: depress throttle pedal slightly, pull back new hand throttle lever, release throttle pedal, turn ignition key and "neet neet VROOOM!", and the cold engine now idles by itself without stalling (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). I have since retired the very finely crafted wood block into the wood stove. |

Are we talkin' a poor mans cruise control? I remembered seeing a picture of what might have been a very early car, maybe a 6, and it had the black lever..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I wondered what that was. For the Fuel Injection Folks, can someone post some pictures? Is that really what it is for, Cruise Control. Seems a bit dangerous, doesn't it? EDIT: Post 58 cleared that up a bit. So they could be used on FI cars. I was envisioning the rod going to the carb, but it goes to the gas pedal..... No it's a throttle control for warming the carbs up at startup. Connects to the accelerator linkage and by pulling the black handle just sets a tiny bit of throttle to raise RPMs during warm up.
I would definitely NOT use this during driving. Very unsafe. |
