I used Prep & Etch. It is cheaper and readily available from Homedepot. I also used Rust Bullet instead of POR15.

Yes metal ready is proper, from what you stated it sounded like all Joe did was wire brush and apply the POR. I still don't like the stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I am not familiar with the sound deadening you are using but remove alll surface contaminants. degrease, then wash with soap and water, rinse twice. put car in sun. hot metal, hot sound pad makes it conform to all the shapes easier and makes the glue backing super tacky. BE CAREFUL. it will want to stick to anything it touches instantly.

for etching on teh cheap HD racing as suggested above, has what you need. frazee paint stores sell Ospho. other places sell Jasco.
etching takes time. how long you leave the stuff n there is fairly important

the stuff i used said to keep all surfaces wet for 20 min. i followed the directions. It came out great so far (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

now i am ready for the sound pad layer (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

then the foam layer

then the luxury liner

then put my car back togeather (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif)

I've been thinking about using a different approach.

I just don't like the idea of scraping off all that old tar and fixing the rust to then seal everything off afterward so water can get back in and start rusting my car again.

So, my idea is to paint the floors etc. after rust removal and then add the sound padding material to the backside of the carpet.

I think this would still work pretty well and makes for easy removal to inspect the floors every once in a while.

You could have saved yourself so much time, aggravation and money if you had just bought that JDM equipped Miata

On a Truck i restored a few years ago i was having lots of road noise issues so i had the undercarriage Rino lined and they can put that stuff on any color you want practically. It works quite well and it didn't cost a small fortune like dyno mat. It made a world of difference. A friend of mine that builds off road trucks told me about it and i didn't believe him. I plan on getting mine done as soon is i'm finished with the rust. The drawback is the weight, if you race your car it does add a good bit of weight.

I also got my cluster back from Bdstone914 and it is bueatiful (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) Thanks again Bruce. I will post more as i go.
