Well,
The wife is working all 3 days this weekend, so all my little 914 projects are going to get done. here's what's on the docket:
  • install jwest fuse panel
  • install jwest fog light module
  • install rennshift
  • new shift bushings all around
  • new clutch cable
  • new accel cable
  • replacing all the vaccuum hoses
  • setting timing
A bit ambitious perhaps, but most of these are "while i'm in there" type things. Besides, I figure replacing the clutch and accel cables is best to do in the comfort of my garage....since the next time i have to do it might be on the side of the road!

What do you all have planned for the long weekend? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif)

P.S. any boston area teeners are welcome to come by and wrench with me!

so where in the Boston area are you.. I might be able to swing by and drink your beer.. I live in Haverhill/Bradford on the NH state line, and I know a few other 'teeners around who are always looking for an excuse to drive the cars..

BTW, I all ready have the fog light project done on my car, and I love it.. I also put one in another notheastern's car... very cool in operation.

I'm in Needham -- 15 miles due west of boston. PM me if you want to come by and i'll give you the address. I have a 2 bay garage if you want to do any work while you're here.

I know Haverhill, I used to work at a little systems integrator up in Plaistow NH (right over the border).

Ha! If James was selling stock i'd buy it. His stuff is top notch and reasonably priced for the quality.

I am hoping that post-rennshift and bushing replacement I'll be able to find 1st on the 1st try every time...

This weekend is all house stuff and brewing stuff, the 914 will have to wait. I did receive another fuel tank yesterday, now just waiting on the POR-15 kit before beginning the fueling rehab project. Someday it will move from the garage (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

Unfortunately mine only has "call" on Monday - so it's "her" New Gazebo & furniture, BBQ cook, clearance & install new Westy Alloy Wheels' center caps, Kleen Wheels Westy & BMW & wash both, repair BMW seat/back cover/etc., my Office shelves, new back door fitted & hung, etc. ..... then maybe some 914 time! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Make sure to check your clutch cable tube is securely welded at the firewall, mid-rear tunnel & forward of shifter while you're doing those cables Rich. It's a common 914 problem for them to break loose & slop around while you're trying to clutch! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Something to entertain the kiddies while you (try to) work on your 914 - (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hissyfit.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grouphug.gif)

Doing an engine drop on my Westy. Should be interesting since I've never solo'd on one before.

Memorial Day I will probably go to the Tahoma National Cemetery to pay my respects to my fallen comrades. RIP

Let me know how you like the Rennshift. I really, really want one for my 914. Everytime I almost have the money for one something else comes up.

I'll be helping with the PCA Club Race at Eagles Canyon Raceway Saturday and Sunday. I'll be working grid.

Finished adjusting valves on the rebuilt top end last night.

Installed fan shroud. Started to install alternator and engine stand tipped over. FAAA!!!!

Getting a buddy over today to help get it back on the stand. Hopefully no damage, and then putting on the tin, trans, and sticking her back in the car!!!

An update based on 4h in my garage last night:
  • install jwest fuse panel done.
  • install jwest fog light module
  • install rennshift done.
  • new shift bushings all around
  • new clutch cable
  • new accel cable
  • replacing all the vaccuum hoses done, although I found some discrepancies between DD's and George's hose connection diagrams...will be the subject of another post
  • setting timing

i also swapped out my vinyl-peeling center console sides for ones in much better shape.

Hopefully I can get everything else done today!
