I can never make it to the 914 breakfasts and such, because they're always far away and on days I have prior commitments. I figure the only way I'll make it to one is if I plan it. (I realize this could result in me eating alone, but that's OK)

Here's my idea:
Breakfast at 10AM Sunday August 1st, at Margies Diner in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Everyone who plans on coming say so here so we can get some peer pressure going (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif)

Since this area isn't as 914 dense as say, the bay area, I'll need help spreading the word.. Mention it to everyone you know that lives in this area or might be passing through. If it goes well, I'll try to do this every once in a while. If anyone has any suggestions or complaints, say so.. I'm bringing this up early so there will be some time for discussion, as I have never done this before.

...If anyone has any suggestions or complaints, say so..

traditionally, breakfasts are scheduled to begin at 9:14 am...

August 1 is only 2 weeks away - that's not quite 'bringing it up early' so people can plan... i pretty much know what i'll be doing every weekend between now and November... 4 weeks is a good planning window, 6 is better.

but you've done a good thing, and you'll learn things from this event that will make your next event even better.

i have only one real phrase of guidance for you: "separate checks."
don't plan for a place that won't go for it ...

Cool, thanks for the advise. The reason I chose 10AM is I'm afraid it will be too crowded at 9:14.. plus I'll be out late the night before seeing ZZ top (yay!) and I won't be wanting to get up super early. I realize that 2 weeks isn't alot, but it seems like more warning than I usually get. The most successful ones seem to be the ones that happen monthly, the same saturday of every month or whatnot. Unfortunately my weekends are too busy for me to do that. I'm sure margies will do separate checks, they're a friendly bunch.. but we may not want to.. their breakfasts are big enough that 6-10 people could probably share one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chowtime.gif)

Post to the birdshit board as well. I bought bagels, cream cheese, coffee, bottled water, orange juice and I served up the last of my smoked steelhead. That and a shop tour will bring you a crowd. Maybe you can hire a stripper!

Why don't you guys make it simple...
Do it every month on the first or the last saturday of the month
That way, you always know WHEN it is
Details on where exactly can be posted last minute

Basically, that's how we do our BS meetings here

cheers,

Jeroen

Think it's a great idea. SoCal has the roads and weather, but we rarely meet. But SLO would be a hard sell due to distance. I'm in Westlake, 2.5 hours from there, LA and OC much worse.

Don't think we would get too many folks to drive that far for breakfast. Dancing girls and track events would do it. Jeroen, CA is 1000 miles north to south. Would you go to Paris for breakfast?

Never mind, you probably would (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

OK bondo. Count me in. I get off work at 9am (so I can never get to the 9:14 breakfasts), I'll try to get from the Castle to Margie's in an hour. If you ever want a shop to hold an event in, lemme know & I'll try & talk the Cap'n into it.

Not every 914 event needs to be a big production. You guys are way too high maintenance.
Give him a break. He wants to get some people together and have fun in his home town. If people think it is too far to drive... don't come.

I would suggest The Madonna Inn, in one of the mirrored ceiling rooms, with all the girls - And keep Howard out - He is SoCal's MikeZ, with less class.

You insulted Mike and me in the same sentence. A guy with as few friends as you have should be more careful.

Overnighter at Madonna Inn? Deal me in.

Bondo,
good idea.

I wonder though, IF you made it an early lunch, if some of us central/northern ca people might drive down and join in on the fun!

But who said you can have only one breakfast for entire CA?
I bet you can have several all over the state...

Slits, come on up. Drag Toast, Scott and Lisa. BTW, I realize a lot of people who really enjoy your humor have never seen you. I found this old pic from when I visited you last year.

Anybody travelling from So. Cal to the north is welcome for lunch if they want to stop in Bakersfield. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/MDB2.gif)

Whenever I read something about No. Cal, I get excited that there might be something near me, but then I read it's like the bay area or Modesto or .....

Maybe someday there will be something happening here in the 'Real' Northern CA. At least closer than over 200 miles away...

Yes, there is life north of the S.F. bay area...

... just not much of it!
