Doc,

The engine's finished-

Remember this 3 speed you created?

I'm ready to stuff the tranny for thanksgiving-

The original gasket shims measured = 0.021"
The "elring" kit shims are 0.009" each, so the closest I can get to 0.021"
is 0.018". So what do I do? I need 0.003" more?

WAIT! - False Alarm Dude! I just re-measured the original 3 shims:

0.007"
0.007"
0.005"
-------
0.019" total < -------- so I'm O.K.! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

Any final pointers before I sew it up? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

I'm confused about why you'd want a three-speed transmission... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

I know you built it for that case...but it begs me to wonder if you could section that case and reduce the length now....

It's going on my two wheeler type 4.
Jockey shift and foot clutch, don't want to shift alot.
And really don't need more than 3, definitely won't use reverse.
Dropped 28 pounds of tranny part weight!

Reducing the length would mean shortening the frame which is already finished.
There's alot of other tasks for the moment so prolly won't tackle that one for a
while.

What question do you still have for me? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) It looks like you figured it all out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The shift pattern you drew is correct, except it is 2-3-4. The 5th gear slot is empty.

given the light load that this engine will face in a bike, I doubt the cooling ducting is needed.

For the moment I'm more concerned about cooling my shins. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Carb pops could be highly amusing as well.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) Could you use shorter intake runners to lower the carbs a few inches?

Oh ya, to your original question to me, close is good enough with the gaskets. These boxes are far past needing super fine tuning. Plus, with your bike it would be no issue with the low weight.
