Hi All -
I bought one of the RC car bodies and had it all done up to match my car. I thought it would be a fun winter project to now assemble the chasis and get it mobile. I have read that the Tamiya M04L is the kit to buy, but I am really having a hard time finding one. Ordered one on line last week and was just notified that they were out of stock and did not know when they would be getting anymore. This is the second time this has happened to me - and from two different sources.

Is there another chasis that is available that will work? I am a total newbe at the RC thing.

I have 2 clear bodies but waiting to finish the big car before I start the RC. Have no idea what I need so I'll be watching this thread.

Its a shorter wheel base than the "normal" chassis, but i think the tamiya pro version is adjustable. (m06 i think)

This is the replacement for the M04. And if you need a transmitter and battery charger/packs i highly recommend hobby king. They have shipping from China, Or the US.

They have several, from 15 bucks to 30 bucks, and they are 2.4GHZ, so no worrying about interference and others on your channel.

you could also use the M02L
it was available with the VW Beetle, Mercedes SLK, Porsche 911 and Porsche Boxster kit

btw - the M04L was available with the Honda S2000 and BMW M Roadster kits

I still have a NOS BMW M Roadster kit, but I guess the EUR to USD convertion ratio, shipping fees and maybe customs fees would kill a deal ...

Slightly off track, but how do you mount these bodies on the chassis? Do you need to use the holes with the ugly mounts sticking out of the body, or are there other methods? Hopefully someone with more RC knowledge can let me know.

I do have an old Tamiya Boxster RC model, so this would be a nice change. Also, did the Fuchs replica wheels ever get made and available? If I do a 914-6GT look, it needs 5 spoke wheels, not the Boxster's wheels.

Usually you use the posts, but I have also done Velcro on the nicer show bodies. One body, and I might do the same thing on the 914 body, I glued little cups on the body and used rare earth magnets to hold it down. Worked very well.

I am not into RC cars but I checked one of my model sources, Hobby Link Japan, for a Tamiya M-04L and found a VW Beetle.

Another option is a Tamiya FWD M-05PRO kit. It's an upgraded version with more ball bearings and other goodies. I haven't built it yet but the FWD will be interesting to see how it works and handles.

I remember that now. That is quite a expensive endeavor to do it that way I think. Nice its on a race ready chassis though, with a lot more hop up parts available for it.
