Lookin at other EFI set ups besides MS and Kit Carsons, anyone running Haltech or something else??? Thinking about going to a setup that uses a MAF.

I may be biased since we sell Haltechs. The name brand aftermareket EFI systems may cost a bit more than MS and others but they install fairly easily.
I dont know of any aftermarket EFI that uses MAF though. Most systems use TPS or MAP to determine spark advance and injector timing, or a combination of TPS/MAP. Ive tuned engines with a number of EFI systmes and have some favorites: Haltech, Motec, LInk. and some not so favorites: Electromotive Havent played with Autronic, Accel,SDS, or EFI yet If you do decide on Haltech give my friend Bill Rudtner a call |

F10X is a fuel only computer, you still use the ditributor,
The E6X is fuel and ignition so you will have to add the expense of a crank trigger, coils ignitors etc. |

Geoff,
Once you've played with a MAP-based PEFI you'll forget all about mass-airflow-sensors. I understand there are benefits to both, but you'll be just as happy with MAP as with MAF. MAP systems work great. -Ben M. |

www.sdsefi.com is the SDS site. It's very informative, even if you don't plan on going with SDS.

I played around with Blairs 1st Gen RX7 Turbo with a Haltech setup. Damn, I couldn't help him get the thing to run very well. Thats why we sent it to this "Expert" tuner where is was stolen. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif)
Blair is pushing me in the Haltech direction. Will the Vanagon hall effect dizzy work with it? I have no desire to build a crank fire tigger like Dave Hunt has done. I'm lazy and want to keep it simple ie: steal parts from other cars! Geoff |

You can trigger the F10 from the neg coil, hall effect, or optical triggers
RX7s are a bit tricky to tune. |

Geoff,
I have a Haltech sitting in the garage....got it from Brad, it's one of their 1st fuel and ignition models...you can trigger it with hall effect method (magnets on the crank)..it's an old sucker...DOS programming (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) if I had the money, I'd go with a "real" EFI such as Haltech instead of the MS, but I probebly would not have learned as much as I have had it been an easy install and build..... |

funny you mention that.....i know I'm pretty darn capable of doing the EDIS install, but right now I'm tired of doing the trail and error method for little gain except for the "oh wow" factor....this would explain why I bought the Mallory distributor and am sticking with the basic known off the shelf items for while...(sorta, LOL) |

The DOS software used by Haltech was pretty damn easy to use
We have software versions on disc going back a number of years |

Now you tell me RX7's are hard to tune!
Hey Mueller, I am a cheap bastard too but since I am pouring money into the car now, whats alittle more!! Here is a pic of the RX7 turbo install using a turbo 2 motor and trany. Lots of custom parts to make it fit. Geoff Attached image(s) |

I've been checking out this site lately: http://www.vems-group.org/. Looks like a step up from the megasquirt, more along the lines of the impending ultra-megasquirt. It does fuel and spark, integrated wide-band O2, autotune capable, etc. Definitely a lot of care and feeding to get it going, but I have an electronics background in the distant past, so should be fun. If you poke around the wiki pages, they have good info on MAP vs. MAP, virtues of sequential vs. wasted spark ignition, etc. |

I've goofed around with the software a few times...the current config in the box is for a monster turbo 911 motor...the box was used on a motor built by the guy that built Doom I/II (cannot think of his name at all right now) Can your buddy get manuals for the E6 boxes?? or do I have to get it from Haltech? |

There always seem to be extra copies of the E6 manuals floating around the shop. If I cant grab one of them, I can always make a copy of one if you want.

thanks....any idea how to find out how different the early E6's are from the latest E6X and K's(??) ?
I downloaded the wiring diagram from haltech for the early E6, I guess I can compare it to the later versions to figure out what is different.... |
