Thanks to Socalandy; I have a replacement VIN sticker for the driver side door jamb. The original sticker got mangled and needs to be replaced; it's stuck on the metal pretty good. What's the best way to loosen the adhesive so the sticker can be peeled back and removed ?

When the paint bubbles, that's too hot.
You want it warm but not to hot to touch. A finger nail or plastic scraper will help too. |

Use a Popsicle stick or better yet a doctors tongue depressor. . sharpen the end
so it is sharp, like a chisel blade. . use this to ease off the old sticker as it won't hurt the paint. . It's a go slow project, and a hair dryer will give you the right amount of heat without overheating the paint. . |

Don't laugh but they make plastic razer blades. They work well taking off , clear bra's and other stuff on paint with out damging the paint. Use with the heat and
alcohol. |

Update: Used the heat gun with a popcycle stick that was filed to look like a chisel. Took all of 5 minutes to remove the sticker. Then I used Terpentine to remove the remaining adhesive. Worked out great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
And under the old VIN was the original color of the car...... |
