Anyone have a diagram of wiring connections for an '83 911 tachometer? I am going to connect to an MSD 6AL ignition. What are all the connections for? I suppose for turn signal lights which I don't care about.

Look for a terminal marked as "TD" that would be the signal input for the tach.

I'm out of town so don't have access to my files...but here is a link where I talked about wiring an 84 3.2. References which wires in the 3.2 harness go to which numbered terminals on the tach...and then the original 914 wires to the tach. Hope this helps:
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...7&hl=wiring First post and then the one with the lame picture of the tach installed are the ones to reference. Jim |

'83 is still 3.0 SC, not 3.2

I would guess #2!
That tach looks different than mine but mine is an 82. The stamp date is when it was manufactured not the model car it is for so it "could be" for a 3.2L. What is the part number on the inside top of the front side of the tach around the ring. Mine is 911 641 301 03. |

I bought it from someone that told me it was an SC tach. Will a 3.2 tach work with a 3.0 motor? |

Does it have a shift light. That would identify it as a 3.2 tach.

Look for the part number above the 3 and the 4 under the glass. Then you can figure out exactly what you have.
Edit - It does have an upshift light. That would make it a 3.2 tach |

Based on the 8 pin connector on the back of the tach it is a 3.2 DME tach.
Pin 2 would be the tach signal but since it would be coming from the DME control unit I have no idea if it would work with a signal from the MSD unit. |

If it is a DME tach is it compatible with the MSD?
You could use the Ashlock Tach-Adapt and just use your /4 tach or if you have any issues with that tach. |

Does it have a shift light. That would identify it as a 3.2 tach. What is the up pointing arrow just below the needle center? LOL...so maybe it is a 3.2 tach. Will it work with a 3.0 motor/MSD I would think it will. Again try it and see if it works! As long as you do + and - correct you won't mess it up! |
