Did a search but didn't find much. I'm looking for good, clear, step by step instructions on installing one. Car has no center console if that matters...........

If you're talking the VDO CHT gauge, then there are two wires, red and black. They have spade connectors on one end for the gauge, and a white two-wire plug for the other. The sender itself is a ring with braid covering the two thermocouple wires, with another white plug at the other end.

The ring goes under the spark plug, in place of the plugs washer. You need to bend the tab on the ring to clear the plug, but not too far from the plug or it won't clear the head. This ring and the wire make getting the plug back into the engine rather difficult, but it's not too bad if you fool with it for a bit and get the bend right.

Put the sender on the No. 3 cylinder, as it runs the hottest. This is passenger side rear.

The plug can only go together one way, but the spade connectors have to be placed on the right way around at the gauge. If they're wrong, nothing will blow up, but the gauge won't read. There is no +12 connection to the gauge except for the dash lights connection. The gauge is "powered" by the sender.

Running the wires from the engine to the dash either requires you to try to snake the wires down through the OEM rubber wiring thingie that goes through the firewall, or just drill a new hole in the firewall near the rubber thing (use a grommet on the hole).

The gauge should read about 250dF just a few seconds after starting a dead cold engine. It should read 300-ish within 20-30 seconds. Cruising at low speeds should show 275-325dF readings. Cruising at high speeds about 350dF. Pulling up a steep hill about 400dF. All with a stock or near stock engine.

comes with the A-pillar mounting kit?? I assume not...and the wires reach or do they have to be altered?

Strat: thanx. I have the guage - still in the box. But I'm flat out of console "guage room". What a great place to put the most important guage I need to monitor:trophy: Right in my face. So... where do I buy the guage surround???
Ohhh, and what year is your strat?

For my Electromotive set-up, I was just going to use a stock CHT sender and wiring it directly into the computer. What are the thoughts between using a stock sender that screws into the cylinder head above the #3 cylinder or using one of the spark plug senders?

the normal CHT is fine for warm up fuel enrichment, not as accurate or sensitive as the under the plug...by the time the regular CHT reads too hot it might be too late (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/unsure.gif)

I got the gauge pod on ebay, I think it was for a integra. The fit was great. Don't have to modify the wiring you'll have plenty of wire for the gauge. I play a 91 Strat Ultra, bought it new.

thats for the center console.....you must run the wiring....

you cant use the center console wiring to wire your CHT guage.... run the wire through the main harness grommet and through the center tunnel and fish it out by the shifter and under the carpet....
