I have a 74 914 wondering if the original targa top was covered with a skin the way that the sails are on either side ? I have always thought the finish on my targa top was original but now I am questioning this

No "skin" or bad landau top. Basically a gel coat type paint directly on the fiberglass.
Hopefully you don't have something like this ![]() (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) |

Some PO did cover my top with vinyl, rather thick and not matching the sail panel vinyl. And they did a REALLY good job of gluing it on.
