A fitzer valve? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . Looks like something to do with the crankcase vent

the short length hose attaches to the oil filler neck.
the metal elbow goes around behind the support for the engine lid stops.
a long piece of the same hose extends to the T on the rear of the OE air filter

Rory is the man. They are missing on so many 6s, nice to see your car still has this on it.

Thank you Robert
Your note made me wonder... what year did we meet ?
The pic shows the car that I've owned since 1984.
Still going strong. In fact I'm going to drive it to Lime Rock for a two day PCA
DE on the 24th and 25th !! Whooo Whooo !!
Sorry for theft of the thread. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

No worries…..y’all cleared up my question. And funny thing your car is just like my original 6. Bought in 81 but unfortunately sold in 89. That detail photo gave me exactly what I needed……Thanks

Thread update.
The elbow in question was likely an early 914 6 feature.
I was just going through parts and discovered there were two versions of the oil filler
neck.
This second version eliminates the seperate elbow by aiming its breather nipple
toward its destination. The breather hose is now a single long piece.
The short hose, 90degree tube and two clamps are eliminated.
As a bonus, the hose no longer gets rubbed on by the rear lid torsion bar roller.
