Finally…the finale! All done. But not before one last hurdle. And some amazing drone / running shots in the Utah mountain twisties! Thanks so much for watching this series.

Ian, Amazing!! Finally done. I wanted to say congratulations but also thank you for all the videos and the journey. I have watched all of them, and occasionally look at them when I need to assemble something on one of my current build cars. Enjoy those Utah roads!

Thanks for all you do/have done for those of us who are learning 914s... Perhaps it's time for you start a new project and employ your own excellent training videos to complete it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Another excellent video. Thank you Ian for the entire series. It was the guide I used when rebuilding my '72. I've watched it over and over again to understand the 914. So informative with practical ideas and solutions along the way. You're an inspiration to the whole community of 914'ers.

I look forward to seeing your "6" series.

Thanks, everyone. None of it would be possible without this great community, which inspires collaboration and the sharing of knowledge.

@jeffbowlsby I'll send you some of the final pics to update the registry...

It's hard to rebuild/restore a car.
It's hard to document and shoot the rebuilding/restoration of a car.

You did both very, VERY well.
Can't thank you enough for doing it - I've watched 'em all and learned a lot along the way.

Really looking forward to the /6 version!!

An amazing build Ian; thanks for sharing the entire process with us.

I was disappointed to hear about the machine shop issue with EMW- that's the 2nd 914 motor I am now aware of that had a major machining failure resulting in engine failure out of their shop. I am glad you found Red E and they got the new engine sorted for you.

I am so looking forward to your series on the 914-6. You are a valuable resource for this community and I am sure countless members, me included, have benefited from your excellent videos.

Cheers buddy,

Michael (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Thanks, Michael.

Yeah, not a great experience with EMW. The only cause which makes sense is that somehow the case halves got mismatched. But who knows?

From what I heard, EMW went through a rough patch a few years ago, but are hopefully better now. Would love to hear some recent positive stories...It's getting harder and harder to find qualified people to help us keep these carss on the road and we need every one of of our knowledgeable vendors to thrive.

Case halves are torqued together BEFORE machining...

Mismatch AFTER machining? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

Had to go TWICE and both times failed? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

Just WOW!

That shop was where I was planning on sending my cases if Automotive Machine couldn't do the work.

I figured SPECIALIZING in this stuff was the best chance of competence.

Ship stuff that far and have problems...

NFW!

Not sure that's what happened, but I can't figure out another way that there would be mismatches after align boring.

Like I said, I think there were some family health issues happening at the time (3 years ago). Not giving a free pass...just trying to be as objective as possible. I would definitely give Jorge another shot...he seems like a reputable guy. But I'd make sure it's his eyes that are on the work (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Ian, congrats on the fabulous car--and the fabulous video series. You have added enormously to the 914 community and knowledge base.

BTW I sympathize with your engine case adventures. I built mine 3 times, with multiple machining detours, to get to the final running version.
