Gerard,

Give us the answer so the entire 914 world will know. Then you get a smilie (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Next one is supposed to post his mystery part & starts all over.

This is supposed to be educational for our newby's.

Uh, I don't have air conditioning, so this be the oft-mentioned "whatzit".

Oh boy, this is going to be a fun topic! I'm after my camera & don't know where to start! Feel like I just got my first 3 day pass after basic training! Where's the broads - oops, better try to keep it clean.

Awright! I never said I could take "proper" pic's! But, if I'm not mistaken those are the Show & Tell Bros & they both (hopefully) fit on necks of 914 FREAKS!

The photo of me was cropped from a much larger one - besides, who gives a sh_t what I look like? I could post my 8th grade Catholic school photo, but you know about the wierdos out there - I WAS a good looking kid. See what happens when mother nature gets hold.

So, come on, the photo of the "thingy" isn't that bad! I'll give you a clue - Koni

Yep, i DO remember. The phot I was looking for is on a slide & I'm having a bunch of them converted to dig. Bear w/me - even I can't believe what I looked like after winning my first concours in 1973 - embarrasing.

Ok, lets get back on track.

Pat's photo is of the cup/bracket that supports the rear spring on the rear suspension. See the little drain hole?

Tom
Assuming I am correct. Here's a new show & tell by the bro's. boys.
It's usually missing on 90% of the cars I've judged.
Common (newby's) guys this is for others to answer correctly. Were just posting for the newby's.

I know I know...my car does not have one...were they only on the early cars?

Its one of those rubber doo-hickeys mounted to the edge of the engine lid. I think its to prevent damage to the rear trunk lid when the engine lid is up at the same time.

That is the rubber snubber that is supposed to be secure to the engine lid.

Isn't that piece a spring perch? Hard to tell from that angle & color. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Jeff & Craig win & Rusty needs to study harder. Do We have a Concours Smilie???

This requires more research. I think this rubber stop & reinforcing angle (part #'s 914-512-195-10 & 914-512-325-10) in the body section 8/5 fitted to the engine lid is proper for my 1974. I don't believe they were factory on the early models 1970 to ??

Need help from the Concours Police Experts. smilie (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Forgot to say the bolt is 6mm x 15mm lg with washer (yellow dichromate finish) and the rubber stop & reinforcing angle should still be available through your Porsche Dealer.

Interesting. The rubber buffer is found on all 914-6's. That's the first time I heard of it being on a four. The '6's needed it because there was no rain tray on the six lid to prevent the the rear deck lid from hitting the engine lid. All of my junk cars (all 4's) with engine lids do not have this part. The parts book says it came with the '6, 914-4, (also 1.7) and 2.0. But NOT the 1.8 which is curious.
Also the profile of yours is tapered with a slight "J" at the end. Both of my '6's are straight with the hole at the end and without the "J".
I'd like to here from Pat to see what's on his '72.

Are we talking about the same picture? I was referring to the large round thing in Pat's picture... not the rubber piece.
