I like the dually supported rear shift rod. Will that BOLT to the trans?
I have only thought of such things, never actually got further than thinking about it. It appears to be a good use for old steering linkage knuckles. I like those boots as well. Looks like a lot of $$$$ |

Damn.. you beat me to it. Wes Hildreth and I have been discussing how to do this for a few months. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Actually, I had the prototype done a year ago, but it was just too expensive to market and I did not have a good solution for the boots. After letting it sit on the shelf for a while I decided to revisit the project last fall. I was able to come up with boots, and I reworked the design to drive the price down without sacrificing quality (not to say that it will be cheap). What is it? Maybe this pic will make it more clear. It WILL be able to use the shift cap to seal the linkage from the elements. Attached image(s)

James,
Why does the rod have to stick out so far from the aft end? Does that plate bolt to the firewall? |

James, Why does the rod have to stick out so far from the aft end? Does that plate bolt to the firewall? The rod sticks out enough to leave room for the attachment and free movement of a dust boot on the aft side of the console. It looks excessive when bare, but it is just right with the cap and boot in place. The aluminum plate is counterbored on the front side to slip over the factory boot retainer on the firewall. Two holes are drilled and the plate bolts up flush, housing a spherical bearing and providing a surface to capture the new boot. |

so the idea is to replace the spagetti bender shift rod with a direct rod with knuckles. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)
Advantage? its certainly not lighter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |
