Sure, if you throw enough money at it...

I think you'll need the "short" version of the G50. Plus I think you'll have to cut up the rear trunk to make room. And, of course, there's the machining to flip the ring and pinion, or the messing with the oiling system to allow you to run the trans upside down. (Which means it will need more room.)

All doable, all will cost ya.

Just trying to deviate from the normal response to these topics. AND, thinking of the ZF makes the G50 look down right reasonable (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I have a friend who is doing that right now. Of course, I should mention that he lives in a $3.75 million dollar home and has a Carrera GT along with several other Porsche cars. Literally, with enough money you can go to the moon. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Seanery,

The G50 tranny shifts so sweet my wife has only done 1 money shift with it so far. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I do have to admit, it does shift like an american car.

My 88 has a hydraulic clutch, so you may be looking at a clutch master up front as well as the other additional fabrication.

I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble.

My 901 with a Rennshifter and tight bushings shifts really well.

A Steve Wong performance chip, cat bypass and M&K muffler will wake up that 3.2 quite nicely. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Is he in the Sacramento area? I wonder if he would let us come take a look at his project. Is that the Carrera GT that was at the Euro sunday?

Yes, that's part of it. You don't have to flip the R&P, and it allows you to move the engine further down in the chassis for better weight distribution.

Note the missing parts of trunk floor in the pic from the Bird board.

As far as I know, the ring and pinion in the G50 is not flippable in any way. So running it inverted is the only option for a mid-engined application.

The good news is that rumor has it that the G50 was actually designed to run in a mid-engine race car, so in reality it's running inverted in a 911. It's supposed to lubricate better mid-engine as well. The Ultima GTR is one of the fastest cars in the world, and the only mod they make to run inverted it is a vent relocation kit. They have managed 720hp with a stockish G50. I wouldn't say it's bullet proof at that level, but it gets the job done.
