I would like to disable the seating and seat belt warning system in my 73. I have
aftermarket seats and belts and don't want to deal with this system. So can I tie
certain wires to ground or to each other to make the 914 brain happy?

I can post pictures of the wires when I get home.

Don't want to cut up my wiring harness too much.

Thanks,

John

John,
Two wires get jumpered as I recall and yellow comes to mind. I think there is something posted on it here...

That is it. Put a jumper between the two yellows. I wandered out to the garage (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

To disable the buzzer you need to go under the passenger seat, unplug the silver box (looks like a relay, but its not a relay) and that disables everything.
It also disables the starter circuit so you need to (as said above) jumper the two large yellow wires together. The easiest way to do this is to make a 1.5 inch thick wire with two male spades on it and plug it into the appropriate slots on the brown block that you pulled the silver thing out of...

Hope this is still on topic, don't mean to hijack. Can all the rest of the wiring be cut out? I've got a 74 and there is alot of wiring there. The two yellows are spliced together but I'd sure like to clean the rest of it up.

Rich....I don't think that the system you described started untill '74. I had a '73 that didn't have it and my '74 I have now had it.....Maybe on a late '73?

Kconway.....There is one "hot" wire. It should be black/red stripe....find the hot one and seal it against grounding....Splice together the Yellow for the starter sol.

OK, so I searched some more using +seat +warn titles only and found a post
from 4 years ago. It says don't cut off any wires where there are two wires
crimped to one lug because the circuit continues somewhere else after all the
seat stuff (Dave Darling posted this info). So you can cut stuff off but only
if you reconnect wires crimped to the same terminal. Connect the two big
yellows (or maybe yellow and red).

John....Do you have a relay looking box under the passenger's seat?

Um, my car had a large rusty hole under each of the seats. There was no wiring
left to speak of. I was surprised the seats did not fall through unto the ground.

This was the largest piece of floor pan left in the car... The "good" part is
from the footwell, the "somewhat rusty" part was under the driver's seat.

I'm sure a '73 didn't have the seat belt interlock system like the '74>. If you did, you would have a wad of wires under the inspection plate in the center tunnel next to the firewall.

Naw..this is the easy way and I understand the dealerships did it this way, using this double connector. No cutting required and easy to reverse. I have a bunch of them if anyone wants one.

Here's what my '74 looks like where I removed the relay and wrapped all the wires. It all works fine.

Great pic Steve. As I said in post #6, tie the yellow wires for the starter together and seal the black/red stripe wires. It is the one that is hot with the key on.
