I started to install my interior rear view mirror and discovered that is was so discolored that it would not provide me any help in seeing behind me. The housing is in great shape and a new mirror is $160. Has anyone taken out the mirror glass, if so how does it come out??

I've taken bits of it out with a hammer and screwdriver.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
You can unscrew the mirror and its arm from the base; there is a long slot-headed screw up inside the arm that holds it to the base on the windshield. Once it's on the bench, you can do anything to it you like. Including locating a replacement mirror to install in its place. Like I did, after removing bits of the old mirror... --DD |
