Centerd in Mineral under the Surry nuclear power plant (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) I got a good shake at the shop. I was sitting in the front bagging some paint samples and watching the Volvo bouncing around

Pretty good shake here just West of Philadelphia.
Ho-hum. Silly East-Coasters evaculated the building, I gathered up my stuff and left too. Got out in time to go back in. 30 years in SoCal, was 1/2-mi from Northridge in 1994 (6.9). 5.9 will get your attention, but it takes more than that to get me excited... |

Yeah, felt it on the 25th floor of our Manhattan building. Nothing much but about 30 sec of undulation.
People were concerned, but in NYC you look to see if an airplane hit your building before you think it might be an earthquake. |

Well our august leadership in DC definitely felt something. Last I heard the Capital and Pentagon were completely evacuated. You know how scary those terrorist earthquakes can be... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

5.9 would almost wake us up ! Look it all works out. Ca gets 30 second quakes, that destroy buildings, roads and belongings the midwest gets 30 minute tornadoes, that devastate anythjing within its range east coast gets 3 hour hurricanes, that topple trees, flood rivers, rip roofs off, and desimate beach front properties and Canada gets the french |

I am a SoCal native but happen to be in DC right now. I was in the ginormous Reagan building near the Pentagon this morning but when the quake hit, I was in the new Gaylord National Harbor conference center...which has a 100 foot high glass wall facing the river.
Amazingly nothing broke but we were evacuated outdoors for 2 hours and the staff seemed ill-prepared for anything like that. No alarms, no radios for most of the security guards, etc. There are two conferences going on here and the 2,000 room hotel is nearly full. All is well now. Could be aftershocks tonight which will freak-out these folks even more. |
