So many months back I made a trade for some custom wheels. Well, they are all done and I have them (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

I painted the centers and weighed them. They came in at 13.5lbs. What does a 5 lug Fuchs weigh?

I see that

I've got a set that I'm just trying to do the rim then I'll paint

just the centers like Panasports silver wheel paint. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/santa_smiley.gif)

Yours do look great! next time we meet you'll have to tell

me how much you have in them without the wife finding out.

I don't have anything into them as it was part of a trade (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

However, what I traded for them was a rather rare part. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I'm sure I'm being dense here, but I thought these were one-piece wheels. How do you get centers from one and different hoops? Is it just (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif) then (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)?

I'm not sure how it is done but basically just remove the center and use it in an aluminium hoop. All of which is beyond my abilities.

It's actually pretty easy. If you want to do the part of the rim where the stem is you will have to dismount the tire. Otherwise, just jack up one rear wheel (chock the front ones for safety) then start the engine and put it in 2nd gear. While the tire is spinning place the "wet sandpaper" over the area you desire to polish, working from 1200 grit thru 2000 grit. Follow up with polishing compound and then a finish compound. You will need a rubber backed sanding pad to hold the sandpaper in place or you will toast your finger tips as all this friction will = heat.

Paint the rims first then follow above instructions. Takes about 10 min's per rim.

I polished and sanded the empi style wheels on my sons bug using a airtool with a scotchbrite roll and disks and then 400-1000 and 2k paper then polish with the mothers stuff. Afterwards I painted the centers. Of course with the tires off. I'm sure the wheel mounted on the car running in gear will work though but be sure and put a jack under the arm to support it up, not in the full down position.

Hmmm. I never would have thought of using the car itself as a lathe.
