Here's the thread where it was discussed:

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?s=&...t&p=1224720

If no one is actively working on it, I would take it on if someone could send me a cast or impression of a factory 6 dash.

Or am I the only one who thought that it was a cool idea...

The 914/6 ignition switch and housing have been supersceded to 964 part numbers. Both are available new from the dealer.

I was going to buy sixnotfour's dash switch but he ended up using on a conversion car he bought. I'd love to have a dash key on my conversion.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the recessed area of the dash sheet metal. The 911 dash is perpendicular to the steering column while the 914 is not. As a result, the ignition lock is not perpendicular to the dash. The factory six cars have an angled depression in the dash to accommodate the difference in angle.

People (myself included) have fabricated a piece by folding sheet steel but it is time consuming and not "right" IMHO. In the thread linked in my original post, there was a discussion about duplicating this area of the original dash.

If you mean does anyone convert to the six column, I know a few people who have (SirAndy, Clay Perrine, and a couple others plus I have done one car).

Maybe I over estimated the number of people who would be interested in doing this.

It's a lot of work, but I made my own recessed plate that mounted the key switch.

Mine is fully functional (steering lock included). It is a 1973 or earlier 911 steering column and ignition switch / lock. There are provisions existing in the body sheet metal to incorporate the 911 or 914 steering column lock mechanism.

The 911 steering column has to be modified to bolt into the 914 body.

I had a thread from when I did mine, but am traveling at the moment and am too lazy to search for it.

Good luck with your project.

I would take one. I reworked the 911 piece to (sort of) work with my dash and it's OK, but if you had a nice piece that actually fit better, i'd go with that.

I would be interested in this as well. I have just started to assemble the components to build the 914-6 clone steering column.

Thanks

For the short term would someone be willing to make a cast of their 914-6 ignition switch depression?

Thanks

Make sure to use a good amount of mold release wax on the dash. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I probably don't have access to mold release wax. Will any wax do?

Thanks

David

Plain old Johnson paste wax works fine for making a bondo splash. Add some tape to cover the holes. brush it on with a $2 brush and mix up the bondo. Let it sit for about an hour and pop it off. Repeat for the back side.

Will be arriving back from JPL DSN Goldsone late friday night.

About noon will work for me.

If the weather is decent, I may start pulling the driveline out of the 6 conversion on Saturday.
