Well today was interesting.
The begining: I got a 2.7 from a '74 targa for free from a friend. Yup, a free engine. I looked at this engine that had loose head nuts and subsequent exhaust leaks and figured that it would need some work. It couldn't cost that much, right? I mean, the engine was free. So the heads needed t be worked, the barrels needed to be re worked, and I figured that I would just rebuild it my self. During the school semester. In my free time. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/screwy.gif) Ok, so it didn't work out that way. I was fortunate, however, to live near a wonderful shop that is very inexpensive. The owner himself finished assembly of my engine (I dropped off a box of parts and an assembled long block with two pulled studs (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) ). He is only gonna charge me for the time it took him. He did it on his free time and he will likely cut me a large break on the cost. I dropped off the engine when they were moving shops and I told him not to rush as I was in no hurry. Well today I stopped by and was expecting him to have been too busy. Nope, he pulled the cover off of it and was like, "walla." Now I am excited, and sad. the bill will be calculated by Wed (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) I never thought that I would build a real Porsche /6 because of the cost. this is so overwhelming. I'm gonna need a bunch of encourgement on this one. I hear a sucking sound in my wallet. Anyone need interior pieces restored? Gotta fund the project somehow. |

Hell man, look at Trekkor and Kerry, they did it! Well, Kerry is almost there. You can do it!
Be careful on that engine though. If it is a 74', it has the small oil pump (not that big of a deal) and could be a non-S engine. I forget how to tell, but it is the difference of about 25hp. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif) |

here's a more recent pic, you can see the leather on the wheel is crumbling. it comes off in little pieces, almost looks like it's burned from the sun ...

so i can SEE it ... the small momo wheel is right over the gauges. i couldn't see my turn signal indicators as well as about half of the rpm range. turning it upside-down (switching the turn signal indicators) now i have the full view of the rpm range plus i can see the turn signal indicators again. same reason why i turned my speedo, now i see the range from about 20 mph to 100 mph ... oil temp/pressure and tank/oil-level are fine as is the clock ... That interior is looking mighty nice Andy!
I like the look of the Red vinyl on the dash...it is the same look that I was going for, I just did mine with paint. -Britain (IMG:http://www.britainsmith.com/Porsche/912Project/Assembly/images/160_0003_JPG.jpg) |

Hey guys,
I have been working as a plumbers assistant (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/bootyshake.gif) to finance this time between college and medschool. The only problem is the hours are not gauranteed (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) So I have a lot more time to do other peoples projects and upholstery (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/clap.gif) Dan, I have a fully re-done 2.7 with SC cams now. It has the smaller oil pump, but I am not running the high performance mumbo jumbo so it will suffice. thanks for the encouragement. Clay, PM me with your work order request and I will shoot you an estimate. I am not too sure about the piping, though. We will have to talk. Andy, I can have the guys replace your leather with new if you find the kit. I tried to get them to make a kit (couldn't be that hard), but they were not interested. I'll look into it this week or next. I forgot to mention that I have mirrors for sale, too !!!! |

Brant,
I fortunately have the bulkhead mount installed already. I bought it a while ago when I was getting paid to go to school. Thanks though. |
