VROOM... VROOOM, turn the corner, sputter, sputter, backfire, backfire, lose power, engine starts dying, floor the gas, downshift, sputter, sputter, backfire, backfire, back to normal for 2 blocks... then sputter, sputter, and turned it off when I got home.
Anyone venture a guess? |

Well, so far I haven't run it down to fumes that I can remember, but with a non-operable/inaccurate gas gauge... that's a possibility... I guess I could also try points and condenser... haven't replaced those since I got the car... that was 3 months ago...
Any sources recommended for purchasing these? upgrades (other tan pertronix) recommended? |

I agree with the clogged fuel filter theory. Mine did the same thing. Stumbled and sputtered on every left hand corner. All is well now.

Which way did you turn? If it was left, the german windsucker is protesting against NASCAR manuvers.
To cure it you must turn right four times and not spit tabacco. |

AAR wire loose and/or otherwise shorting to sheet metal and taking out the fuel pump -- not enough to actually blose the fuse, just enough to make it run bad.
or - more likely - loose wire at the coil. |

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif) I bet it is a chop stick clogging your flux capacitor which is throwing the fuel conditioning unit into a graveyard spiral..........but I could be wrong...... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/bravo.gif)

Try sticking one of those retractable magnet things down in the gas tank and hope nothing comes out. However, loss of fuel should't cause backfire, check wire harness at all the sensors, dist., and coil.. probably something just loose..

Pull clean and lube put back and then ohm your trigger points as process of elemination. Also check all your FI harness grounds. Assumeing your running FI that is. Check your fuel pressure as well. A clogged retrun line as mentioned above could double the pressure thus flooding motor and make for black smoke out the tailpipe.
