Hello Everyone

Just took possession of this 1972 914

It has a 327 Chevy Small block with performance cams KEP Clutch/Adapter

Still learning how the car handles but for my 2 short rides it is alot of fun

Needs some small paint repair (rust bubbles)

Otherwise I am very pleased with my purchase

With that engine, you may want to upgrade your brakes, etc... I see you still have 4 bolt original hubs and brakes... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thanks

The front brakes are BMW

The rears are the front 914 calipers
They stop the car really well

Also they have racing grade pads

The hubs are 4bolt

What do I get if I upgrade to 5 Bolt??

5 bolt may give you a better selection of a wider selection of wheel sizes. Just going a little bit wider and slightly larger in tire size will make a world of difference in handling.

I've not seen the figures, but a 205/50 or 206/60 on a 7 inch wheel will about double the footprint of the original 165 on the 5.5 inch wheel. Sway bars?

With the right wheel and tire combo, some sway bars and the suspension set right, you'll really be able to take advantage of the V8. If you don't do any drag racing, the gear box and ring and pinion should hold up fine. CV joints usually fail when you accelerate hard out of a corner and light up the inside tire. That's where traction will help a lot, not to mention learning careful application of that power.

Enjoy-

Please give us a better description of the build of the engine, like what is the camshaft profile (you would not have camshaft(s)in a sb chevy).
The 327 came as a lowly 210 bhp 2 barrel carb. OR all the way up to a 375 bhp f.i. engine with a solid lifter cam. The latter goes into a classic corvette...doubtful that it's in your car.
Enjoy the v8, but get some decent brakes + cv joints !

5 lug = 911 front suspension. You get a wide selection of vented rotors, plus more choices in wider correct offset wheels. Not cheap but is a valuable upgrade.

There are lots of 5 lug wheel options too that will fit under the narrow body fenders and you don't have to go to flares.

Nice shopping list on the sb 327.
I'm just wondering with mostly all good engine upgrades...why did the builder leave the low performance 1.94 heads; when this cam + 600cfm carb. will work so much better with the 2.02 heads? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) For these sturdy 4 bolt- main iron blocks I prefer the Chevy cam #3863151 hydraulic, 2.02 angle plug heads, roller rockers and pushrod guide plates. Nothing from China...all U.S. sourced parts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif)

I can't speak for the builder, but I did the same thing with mine because the slightly smaller valves allow a faster flow for a better mix of air and fuel and better burn. This was a big concern for me since I was building mine in Colorado where the air is much thinner.

Even at lower altitudes unless you have high compression or are going to be running above 5500 rpm alot, there is little to no benefit from the bigger valves, they will actually not perform as well. At least that's what I've been told.

Do we have an SBC experts out there that can comment?
