installing wiper pump, which wire? Options

I'm installing a pump for the washer fluid instead of using the spare tire. I can extend the black/brown wire to the pump. Can someone confirm which wire that is?

I'd like to hook the pump up to the wiper stalk and not have to run a separate switch. I've read it can be hooked up so the intermittent wipers will run it. I have a '72; do I have intermittent wipers? I could not find any reference to them in the owner's manual, so I'm guessing I don't. I've included a picture of the wiper/turn signal assembly for reference.

How do I tap into the wire on my existing stalk?

I've read I can get a 911/924 wiper assembly and it will work. Is this true and will it fit my car? How does that option work?

Non of those wires if I remember right. The pressure from the bottle is released by a valve in there when you pull the stalk. I had bypassed that years ago with an electric pump and a button on the floor.

I don't know about the 911/924 stuff . . .

There is no switch for the pump in there. You need a different switch that has an extra wire OUTSIDE the connector.

Correct that's why you need the 924 switch because when you pull back on the lever it makes connection with a second set of contacts which I used to switch my relay for the pump.
This switch has the wire already in the wire holder so theres no need to muck around running the wire inside the column,theres bugger all room any way.
The 914 one is without this set of contacts,not sure if the super beetle/ghia switch has those.
Some have used this switch to operate and intermittant relay if I remember right.

You can either add an ugly button to the dash or use the 924 or Supper Beetle switch. (The switch looks exactly the same as the 914 one but has an extra wire outside the connector). I did the later and it works fine.

I just wired up a discreet black pressure activated switch on the dash next to the key. Ran a wire to the fuse block and a ground and was good to go. Took an hour to wire it up.

Beware that the late beetle /ghia switch is for sale new but its a repop and not very good,plenty of mention on the Samba of issues,up to OP however.
IMO go for the 924/mk1 golf good used or NOS,they are made pretty well.

Yes it fits and looks the exactly the same. I installed one in my car.

It's OK quality but the movement is a bit rough compared to the SWF.
If money is not an issue, I would take the offer from Mark. Else, get the $30 reproduction..
P.S. I had a thread with pictures about installing the switch. You just need to run one wire to the pump.

Go to Pelican 914 tech article as it lists the switch by part number,think it ends with an "H' suffix,get one of those you will be good to go.
Wire in a relay to run it its good practice with old car wiring and better than running more direct load of the fuseboard.
