I'm having trouble getting this guy installed. It goes in fine, then when I tighten it up the shaft tightens up and won't turn (I'm turning the small gear inside the end of the tail cone) I did some careful measuring and I think the end of the slotted member in the angle drive is pressing against the shoulder of the paddle inside the tail cone piece. When testing the rotation of the angle drive itself I press down lightly on the arrowed surface and the drive won't turn, so I know it doesn't take much pressure here to prevent (what I assume are) the miter gears from turning.
The Haynes manual shows a whole grouping of parts as one number (frustrating!) Anybody know what A and B are? I'm thinking B is the seal, but what is A? I think a washer in here somewhere would provide a bit of clearance so things can move properly. Any ideas? ![]() ![]() |

I installed mine as one piece, per the manual.
Perhaps take the other half out and see if you get can it together before reinstalling it? |

We provide with the double seal housing. We do not include the washer but this is what you are looking at.

Thanks! You guys helped me figure it out. Yesterday I looked into my old tail cone and thought I saw a washer in there, but it wouldn't budge, so I gave up. This morning, after seeing the pics of the washer and seal I went out and grabbed a dental pic and fished it out. Came right out. Wiped it down, popped it in the new one, all is well.

$7 & $10 is VERY cheap for genuine Porsche parts that stop your angle drive leaking oil all over the garage floor and onto your exhaust while driving.
Plus they fit......straight out of the box without all the leg work, research and general searching to find an "alternative" source and save a few pennies and have the worry that what you've bought might not quite fit, last as long or leak oil. Granted if they were $50 upwards it might swing the balance, but at $17 for both parts it ain't worth the effort to complain about the price from Porsche. |

Actually, they do seal the internal, but most of the leaks come from the outside diameter of the large bushing, hence the reason I sell them with the double seal like McMark designed the fix.
The new internal seal is a no brainer, but no need to replace the aluminum washer, just reuse. |

Mark thanks for that, noticed the angle drive is quite loose in the gearbox housing, even after fitting new "o"ring? |

The internal drive or the entire unit?
I assume the entire unit. There is a set "screw" (see #1) that should hold the unit in nicely. The entire assembly shouldn't actually wear as it's fixed. |
