I order up some replacement intake gaskets for my retro fit of the D-Jet back onto my 2.0l from Webers. My question is about the plastic intake gaskets and the addition of sealant or paper gaskets to go with them. The replacements look to be plastic phenolic with out paper on each side like i have seen and used in the past. Do I need to add the paper gaskets with the new phenolics? I have used aviation sealant in the past and was successfully sealing the IDF manifolds. Any advise would be appreciated

Quick question where did you order the plastic spacers? One of mine is cracked and I made fiber gaskets to try and hold it together seams to work but for how long? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif)

In the eBay photo you can kinda see that the edge is white or at least lighter. I just replaced mine and I thought the same thing about the paper. Can't remember where I got them. Don't think they were $20+ tho. get the part # from AA and search. It might have been AA where mine came from.
I also used sealant. Red RTV stuff. I remember partially tightening the nuts and letting the sealant cure abit, then torqueing. I was fighting some vacuum leaks on my L-Jet. All is well now. |

Recently replaced mine. No sealant. Made sure contact surfaces were clean and torqued to factory value.( Something like 12 ft/lb. Not much, I do remember.) No issues. Car running great.

I made my own paper gaskets from gasket material from my FLAPS.
Cut the holes for the bolts and sandwiched the paper between the 2 spacers and bolted together. Used a razor knife to cut to shape. Took about 15 minutes to make 4 gaskets. Attached image(s) ![]() |

I remember McMark saying the few sets he ordered from a vendor came without the paper on the gaskets.
Many years ago they used to come with the paper - things might be changing depending on the vendor. |

I remember McMark saying the few sets he ordered from a vendor came without the paper on the gaskets. Many years ago they used to come with the paper - things might be changing depending on the vendor. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) When I replaced the gaskets on my old 1.7 back in 2013, they came with paper. When I replaced them on my 2270 a year ago, they did not. Both times I bought them from Pelican. I attempted to use the non-paper-having ones anyway, and the result was a vacuum leak. You will have to add a paper gasket to each side of the phenolic. Depending on how long your intake studs are, you might be able to use the cardboard/paper ones that CB Performance sells, which I was able to do just barely. Or you can cut out your own paper ones, as someone else mentioned. |
