Just removed my outer rocker panels in search of rust. Take a look at what I found!
Kinda learning as I go here. Is this usual to find this much junk in the rockers? It's been 1 year exactly on the project. I've met some amazing people and can't believe how much I have learned. Thanks for all the 914World encouragement! My Dad and I post these videos together. Thanks for watching! Very normal!! Mine were worse. make them accessible enough to clean them out every year. Great video too!

Hi ! Great video again.
Your rockers and covers are in great shape ! all can be re-used. and to answer your question : "Am I the only person with a Porsche on blocks?"....welll....NO ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But most if us have it on jackstands at same point and not on blocks, but the idea is the same. Keep up the good work !! |

Terrific job and your "long" looks to be a decent shape as well as the rocker cover. The passenger side, as you already know I am sure, is typically the one with the most rust/damage. I would like to see some good jack stands under the car instead of the cinder blocks. Regardless, good job and keep up the great work. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Frances, you’re soooo cool; loads of personality! Well done with those outer longitudinals. They’re in very good shape.
Your Dad is an excellent videographer, but you make it fun by how expressive you are. Looking forward to the next video. |

Well, good for you. Doesn't hurt to learn to work with your hands. This time with your Dad, well mine always worked, so I didn't know him. Shake your Dad's hand for me and tell him " Good job , Dad "

Alright, I don't want to be the grinch that stole Thansgiving but am I the only one concerned about how the car is supported by cinder blocks? I'm hoping there are jackstands somewhere. Really enjoy these videos but don't want to see anyone get hurt. Please work safely. Cinder blocks are not for supporting cars. Worse yet, they are stacked sideways. Cinder blocks are designed to support compression load in a vertical direction (hollow cores oriented vertically). Even then they aren't terribly robust to side loading. Stacking them sideways is the worst possible way to use them assuming that they are the only thing at hand and that you must use them. Concrete doesn't yield with any warning. It simply collapses almost instantaneously. Please consider obtaining a set of jack stands. |

I love it. Awesome video. One more like for you. I love your enthusiasm.
It's perfectly normal to find a bunch of dirt and crud under your 914's rocker covers. It looks like there was surprising little rust, and that's great. That one you pulled off is usable. You might want to weld up that crack. How far you go from there really depends on what your intention is for the project. Full restoration or refurb and return to the road ASAP. And yes, I hate the cinder blocks too. Fortunately that looks like a mostly empty tub, but still, better safe than sorry. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Yup, put the jackstands at the top of your Xmas list. Besides, it will make you part of a very large contingent of 914 owners. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Be sure to get the kind that secure the support with a pin....NO RATCHET STYLE STANDS. Those cinder blocks are strictly for rednecks working on old pickups. Thanks for the great videos...you do know you're a star in the 914 world, don't you? |

Nice video and as others have said, the cinder blocks are not the safest way to elevate the car. The blocks are not even used in the position of maximum strength. They don't build structures with the blocks on the side like the video shows.

Hello! Thanks for check in here. I wonder if they can be closed off from dirt? They were originally installed with plastic rivets so they could be easily removed and maintained. 914rubber has the plastic rivets. |
