'72 914-4

Starting axle/cv overhaul, only 2 CVs came off the shaft, other 2 not budging.

CV's feel crappy anyway, so thought of getting complete new shafts...
Can't seem to fine many places selling, if the do, they're 300-600???

What gives, why so scarce

And those of you who have bought recently...from where?

Thanks

I bought the complete axles and CV's (all 4) from Gaudin Porsche in Las Vegas, Nevada (702.383.6800) a few years ago. Great price and prompt shipping. They have always come through for me for P-car parts. There is also a Porsche dealership in Delaware that apparently sells parts and does not charge tax; I have not bought anything from them yet, but will them a try the next time I need something. It is unlikely your axle shafts are the problem. So, if they're OK, just replace the CV joints.

Here is one location to get new ones:

This could set you up for another 50 years. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Where did we recently get some axles? Rock Auto.

If you've converted your 914 to 5 lug with Euro hubs and other parts, it turns out that you can use new 2006 Pontiac GTO axles (part# GSP NCV10024). On closeout they went for $30 to $60.

@Jim_Hoyland I am not sure if they had them on the shelf or not. I think it was less than a week before they were in our hands. I just remember thinking, "Wow, that was fast". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

@Jack Standz Care to elaborate on this? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

What makes the Euro (do you mean URO?) hubs different from the stock parts that would now allow the use Pontiac components? Wouldn't they also work on stock setup? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Sorry, yes they are "Uro" hubs. They have 28 splines and work with 930 style CVs (with the proper 108mm stub axle for 28 splines hubs).

Check out post #13 in this thread where it shows these new complete $19 or $34 axles mocked up with a 108mm transmission side flange ready to bolt into a 914 with 911 or Uro hubs:
