Going to look at this 1973 914/2.0 next week.

Looking at this picture I am wondering if there is a problem with the suspension. Is the front cranked up and the rear drooping/collapsed?

Either new springs or too much beer in the trunk. 100 lb springs will work.

Front looks right, back is jacked. Generally if you follow the line at the bottom of the doors and fenders to the wheels, they will bisect the center of the wheels. I believe that is approximately stock height. Front is correct, back is too low for some reason. Needs eyes on to figure out what is going on.
Is that the Carolina squat on a pick up truck?

Old 914 rear coil springs can sag, new 100lb springs are good.

My opinion, keep the rear low and lower the front to match.

Check to see if the rear shocks have adjustable perches, and what height the PO set.

100# springs from 914 Rubber raised the rear of my car right at an inch.

Check the door gaps, same top and bottom. Smaller at the top is trending bad. Car could be sinking due to rusted frame structure.

I've never seen rear springs sag that much.
There's something else going on. Check for rusted suspension consoles.

Although I suppose it could just be that the front is jacked up so high it's putting added weight on the rears in addition to the spring perch being too low...

They definitely went wild with the paint- going over the handles and the bumper tops. I'm betting there's a ton of overspray.

Thanks for the note on the door gap and suspension points to look at.

If nothing obvious I am going to have it sent out to the local Porsche dealership for a PPI.

Thanks again

People also like to cut springs, just saying.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif)

That front spoiler is so low with the rubber lip, looks like lowering the front would cause that to hit pretty much everything.

Ending up aborting the purchase of that one and bought a partially finished project car from a member on the Porsche 914 Canada FB group. Hope to have it here the first of October to inventory what remains.

Will be looking for an engine builder in Canada if anyone has any pointers in this area.

Thanks for the info on the prior car I posted enabling me to determine it had some serious issues on my second inspection.

If the front of a 914 is higher than the rear it will handle really floaty at speed. The front should be slightly lower than the rear.

That poor 914 looks like it's trying to do the Carolina squat. Haha

914's where set up in front a little to meet headlight regulations at the time. Set your car up where you want it. A quick check is to measure from center of the front wheel to the floor, it should be 12" on stock tire.

you are closer to the truth than you think. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
all vws of that era were set up nose high (though not quite to the levels of the yellow example discusssed here).
super bugs. 411/412s, type 3s,.........and 914s.
vw policy. to take a loaded front trunk basically.

it could be the usa headlight height story but i susoect thats a myth.
all the vws stock were like that here in australia too. nose high. slightly. when unloaded.

a thought.

but there is definitely something not right about the yellow one. way off on the nose up attitude.
