Same cap and rotor for both.
009 is a centrifugal (centriFRUGAL for us CSOBs) advance, 22º full advance. 050 is I *think* centrifugal and vacuum advance. |

Nope nope and nope.
different rotor and cap both are mechanical no vacuum on either. At least the ones I have. My 050 suffers from bad bushings I think that is the only reason I switched to 009. I think the curve is much different and I remember feeling a big difference in acceleration. 009 has a "whack kick you in the back" as it comes to full advance. I'm jonesing for a Mallory but I also need new Hoosier Slicks for F Prepared class |

also, the 050 has been unavailable for quite some time... I think the 050 has more of a maximum advance.
Joe's right though, Mallory is supposed to be the way to go! |

Different cap, rotor, and condenser. Different advance curve, different total advance (17 degrees vs. 32 degrees). They look different, too. Other than that, they're the same. The Cap'n |

Holy crap the Capt. and I agree. Better not let my Navy buddies here. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) SO which one has the 32 degrees advance? Maybe I should rebuild the 050. |

009 doesn't have vacuum advance. Centrigugal ONLY. They work good for racing. On the motors that idle at 2 grand...
I might have to switch over to the 009 here soon. That "stutter" keeps coming back periodically |

That picture and part number is for a stock 1.8L distributor. The 009 that is sold aftermarket does NOT have a vacuum advance on it.
It's real easy to get confused. The part number for the 1.8L distributor ends in 009, but it's not the 009 that we refer to when we talk about the "float test". |

Most 1.8 distributors don't have a 2 litre part number and trigger points. Think you might be wrong in your initial assessment. The Cap'n |

That image is VW and prolly a 2L bus
0 231 174 009 = VW 039 905 205 It is interchangeable with.. 0 231 174 011 which was used on the VW 2L and the Porsche 2L = 039 905 205A The 009 fitted to the 1.8L Porsche 08/73 to 07/74 ....Bosch Part# 0 231 181 009 = VW 022 905 205 AA (interchangeable with 0 231 168 005 = VW 021 905 205 P 08/74 up .............Bosch Part # 0 231 176 048 = VW 021 905 205 AB And of the 009/050 Centrifugals..there is the good one (German) and the shitty one (Brazilian). I'm not gonna look for the Bosch part number on these. Images of the 1.8L (IMG:http://www.rccauto.com/ebay/18l.jpg) (IMG:http://www.rccauto.com/ebay/18la.jpg) |
