73 1.7 will not go past 4000rpms in any gear. changed vacuum hosese, fuel lines, timing, dwell, dizzy,cht, fuel tank. solve this for me and all this and more are yours.

dang...gonna need some extra tall jack stands after all that.

does it idle ok? if so, measure intake vacuum. you should get atleast 14inch Hg. the idle air adj. screw should be nearly closed.

measure fuel pressure - should be around 28psi

Have you checked the rotor, could it be a rev limiter type to 4000rpm??

don,t think so engine flies up to red line in nuetral and car juswt has no power. but will look into it thanks. come to nyc and the bbq is yours. rich

if your valves are so out of adjustment that it wont go past 4k, it wont idle well. if your valves are excessively loose, that engines gotta be making hellaciuos racket. and if excessively tight and driven that way for a while, your valve train is likely bbq'd along with those ribs.

is this a djet or carbs?

Does it break up at 4000 RPM real badly?

Swap out the coil for a known good one and see if that might be it.

I don't know much about what a bad coil acts like but they're pretty cheap - maybe $30 or so.

Update on the car....
Rusted brake line has been replaced.
Master is leaking like a ... lets just say big puddle
Gas pedal to be welded/repaired to avoid sticking - Wow no brakes and sticking throttle that was (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)
Fuel pump connection was not conected it was arcing at the pump.
More on that tomorrow not sure it will fix the 4000 rpm thing
It's gonna run nice real soon
