As you can imagine, things have changed a bit because of the fires, but we're going to go ahead with the grand opening get together this weekend. With things the way they've been this week, I think we could all use a little time with some good friends, good food (well, okay... hot dogs), and general hanging out. Unfortunately most of the roads that we were planning on driving in the morning are currently reserved for fire crews and may still be by Saturday, so it's looking like the morning tour is off. So everyone sleep in a bit and plan on cruising in around ten or so. If some of the interesting roads are open, we'll try to head out in the afternoon. I'll try to keep you guys posted on the road situation.

As the week moves on I'm sure we're going to hear more about those who have been affected by the fires and what kind of needs there are out there. If you'd like we can take donations to go to our members who are in need or for the community in general.

Anyway, you guys wouldn't let a little thing like the worst fires in SoCal history keep you away from a gathering, would you? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

I hope all of you are doing well, and I hope to see you guys on Saturday...

Well, it's been a long time coming, but I'd like to invite you all to the grand opening of my new shop, Mulligan Racing Development.

As some of you guys know, I've been working on buying an this place for some time now. Well, after all of the (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif) and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) its finally all done and open for business here in Vista, CA. I bought an existing business (complete with existing customers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) ) so it isn't completely new, but it's new to me.

So now it's time for (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jsharp.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) and maybe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rock_band.gif)

I'm hoping you guys will come help celebrate on Saturday, October 27th at our grand opening. (Still working on the band, so no promises there...)

We'll be meeting at the shop around 8:00 am for a run up into the local hills, ending up back at the shop around 11:00 for bench racing, dogs, chips, sodas, some door prizes and general hanging out. If you can't make the run, come for the rest, we'll be there 'till around 3:00 or so.

Please RSVP if you think you want to join us for the morning drive (We wouldn't want to leave without you!). You can drop me an email at Mugsxr4@pacbell.net

The address is 1304 North Melrose Drive, Suite B, Vista CA.

Directions from I-5:

Highway 78 East to the Melrose exit.
Left (North) on Melrose for approx. 1.5 miles. We're on the right just past North Drive.

From I-15

Highway 78 west to the Vista Village Drive exit.
Right on Vista Village to Vista Way.
Left on Vista Way to Melrose Drive
Right on Melrose Drive for approx. 1.5 miles.

If you have any questions let me know. I hope to see you there!

Hello Mr Mugs914 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif)

Congratulations on your new shop & business. Lots of us don't know you here in fly over land, so tell us about your shop?? What do you do?? Will you service & repair 914's?? From your picture you look like a mean guy, but your probably just a big mushy guy who loves Porsche's. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

I can relate to going in business. I did it in 1986 with a wife who didn't work & (2) kids in college. Failure is not an option. You will need lots of support from the Kali crowd so good luck.

Tell us more about your shop???

Tom

Thanks guys!

The shop is a racing/sports/specialty car repair and restoration shop. The PO is an Alfa Romeo specialist who does a lot of vintage racing. Of course, it will be more Porsche oriented now, but I like Alfas too so I want to keep them around. I'm going to be moving it toward more of a race shop, doing a lot of race-prep, fabrication, modification etc., but repairs do make up the bulk of the work right now. There are a couple of race cars that I have worked on in the past that would be familiar to some on the list, and they'll be running from the shop now. They should be there for the G.O., so I'll update you on those as soon as I know for sure. And of course my Turbo 914 race car project has a place to live now. It's been a long time since I've done anything to it since I've been busy with other things, but progress should be much quicker now.

Will I work on 914s? OF COURSE! In fact I just finished a minor rust repair on a '74. I really do like older cars best. I'm hoping to get a couple of hot rods in too!

BTW- I'm not a mean guy... Honest... Just ask anybody. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Mike came to one of my Bar-B-Q's a while back. At the time we had a tranny apart for what I don't recall, but he jumped right in and showed us where it needed correcting.
It seems to me that Mike is a serious asset to our community.
Congratulations Mike and good luck with your new shop.

Mike is the real deal. I met him at the HSR-West vintage race in Palm Springs. Then got to spend time with him at the PIR event.

Look for threads on his 3.0L six conversion and his race car project. Very quality work. Like Joe said, a real asset to the 914 community.

Hope to see you in Phoenix in December for the HRS event. I hope to have the green car in the event.

Congratulations on the shop!

Assuming the roads are open, I'll be there, but in a 911, not a 914. Transmission not put together yet.

I had a previous engagement which I may not be able to attend due to work, but I wish I could come down. Vista is not that far anyway, I may drive down during the week sometime and check it out.

Good luck with your new shop, someday I may have one too.

Hey Clayton, don't worry about Aaron. I found a pair of "Corona" flip-flops that'll keep him occupied for hours! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Thanks you guys, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. Should be fun...

Sorry you can't make it Scott. Come on down any time. Make it around noon and we can grab a burger or something...
