can someone explain (detailed) how to install an oil temp sender to a 1.7l '72 car?
i got a very good combo unit with oil temp gauge and have to install the sender as the car is currently w/o. which parts do i need? is the cabling already there? i mean is it in all cars anyway? maybe there is a guide somewhere in the net i can download? pics? thanks in advance, david |

The diagram above will be very useful in your installation. Basically, the oil temp gauge needs to be hooked to a + power supply (as shown in the diagram but there may be other + supplies besides the brake light switch that may work) then the gauge is connected to the temp sensor. The temp sensor is a variable resistor that varies with temperature (a thermistor) and that is what actuates the needle on the gauge; a varying voltage that is varied by the temp.
