This is a very embarrassing post however a few weeks ago, some local guys convinced me to take two of my cars up to a local drag strip for a test and tune night. My 911 is not exactly set up for drag racing however I figured that I should have no problems against Dodge Rams (with very modified Cummins Diesels). Well, I was wrong.
I did get a lot of wheel spin and my clutch is slipping however I thoroughly got my butt kicked. The truck that I was racing, let off the throttle because I was so far behind. I think that he normally runs 1/4 miles in the mid 12's. My time was pathetic. If everything was running right, I think that I would have gotten low to mid 13's. We were going to race my Cayenne Turbo (with the baby seat in back!) vs the rams but we ran out of time. I defense of the Porsche crowd- my car was basically stock (I did not have mufflers on during race) and their trucks were heavily modified. Next time, I will take them to race a road coarse against my 914- that would be fun to watch. heres the post (my race is about midway through the video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g4T02MI89Q |

back OT, you might be surprised by the truck on the road course as well... I had a bone stock Lightning that I could chew people up with. I had ignition issues with my car when I first moved to CO, and I found out I needed to take a one day instruction class to get on the local tracks here, so I took the pickup out and the teacher to this days remembers it... she was wary of letting me out there in an F150 but I assured her she would "respect the truck" after a few laps (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
so long story short, she sent me a link on her facebook page to a diesel Dodge on a road course, followed by a guy in an S2000 (who is taking the footage) and he couldn't catch that truck. Sure, it might be driver skill, etc but that truck was haulin'. I don't have access to FB here at work (I am surprised I even get access to this site) but if you have FB, look up Judy Faass - she has Faasst racing school and the link should be on her page. Side note with the Lightning, I went to a track day at Streets of Willow in SoCal and a bunch of tuner import dudes with their Scoobies and Mitsus saw it and went to the organizer and bitched that they didn't want a truck out there in their way. Organizer knew me, told me, so I went out with them first session and after I passed a few of them, the rest couldn't catch me, every one of them followed when I came in and were all over the truck looking at it and trying to figure out WTF just happened. Only guy that could get away from me was a Mitsu on R tires and I had stock Eagle F1s (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The trucks in the past few years have been pretty amazing. |
